The use of broad-spectrum antibiotics leads to a reduction in the normal gastrointestinal flora – dysbacteriosis (a condition caused by an imbalance of the bacteria normally found in the intestines), with possible diarrhea, constipation, and the appearance of fungal infections.
• Supports the normal functioning of the intestinal microbial flora.
• Has a positive effect on the immune system.

Mechanism of action:
The safety profile of using live probiotics is still a matter of debate. The main risks include: cases of systemic infections, especially in vulnerable patients and the pediatric population; acquisition of antibiotic-resistant genes; or interference with gut colonization in newborns. To avoid these risks, there is growing interest in non-viable microorganisms or microbial cell extracts to be used as probiotics, mainly tyndallized bacteria, primarily lactic acid and bifidobacteria [1].
Tyndallized lactic acid bacteria are used in the composition of FERMENTIX JUNIOR. The combination of heat treatments with periods of lower temperatures is a process known as tyndallization, due to similarities with the sterilization method developed by the physicist Dr. John Tyndall in the 19th century.
This avoids the risks associated with live bacterial strains. Heat-treated probiotic cells are able to exert beneficial effects, mainly immunomodulatory effects, protection against enteropathogens, and maintenance of the integrity of the intestinal barrier [1].
Various strains, including lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria, are able to induce beneficial effects in their heat-inactivated form [2].
Heat-killed probiotics are also able to antagonize pathogens through antimicrobial compounds [3, 4].
Data show that heat-killed bacteria have key probiotic effects, with advantages over live probiotics (mainly their safety profile), making them preferred for managing common gastrointestinal discomfort in children, especially during antibiotic therapy [1].
The main effects of probiotics at the intestinal level are as follows:
Balancing and restoring the gut microbiota, protection against pathogens, immunomodulation, and maintenance of the intestinal barrier integrity;
Probiotics are able to fight pathogens by producing antimicrobial compounds;
They lower pH;
Inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria by directly binding to Gram-negative bacteria;
Strengthen epithelial barrier function to prevent chronic inflammation in the gut;
Probiotic lactobacilli and bifidobacteria regulate the production of inflammatory mediators and favorably regulate intestinal mucosal inflammation;
Probiotics can initiate restoration of barrier function after damage induced by various pathological conditions, such as E. coli-induced mucosal disruption;
Probiotics such as Lactobacillus and other lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria have been shown to inhibit a wide range of enteropathogens, including E. coli, Salmonella, Helicobacter pylori, Listeria monocytogenes, and rotavirus.
FERMENTIX JUNIOR is useful for recovery after antibiotic treatment and infections due to its content of six B-group vitamins. Vitamins of this group are of particular importance for the child’s body, and their levels decrease when the gastrointestinal tract function is impaired.
FERMENTIX JUNIOR also contains a sufficient amount of arabinogalactan. Arabinogalactans are biologically active compounds (prebiotics). Arabinogalactan is an excellent immune system stimulator. Arabinogalactan stimulates the formation of immune cells twice as effectively as echinacea. FERMENTIX JUNIOR supports the child’s immunity, weakened during illness.
Effects of Arabinogalactan:
stimulates the growth and development of beneficial intestinal microflora;
improves intestinal peristalsis;
promotes regular cleansing of the intestinal tract;
absorbs and removes toxic substances, radionuclides, and heavy metals;
strengthens the immune system;
protects against the negative consequences of antibiotic therapies, protecting the beneficial intestinal microflora from the damaging effects of the antibiotic. Microbial arabinogalactan is a major structural component of the mycobacterial cell wall [3];
contributes to increasing the therapeutic effect when used simultaneously with probiotic preparations containing lacto- and bifidobacteria;
Arabinogalactan is effective for modulating the immune response to the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms [4].

REFERENCES:
1.
